Listed Building / Conservation Area
With many listed buildings the cost of upkeep and maintaining the fabric can be high. Sometimes historic buildings have been unsympathetically extended in the past, to the detriment of their setting and appearance. This was the case at Digswell Lodge in Welwyn Garden City, Herts, a grade II listed building within landscaped gardens. The previous use as a rest home was becoming increasingly unviable and new uses had to be found.
JB Planning Associates obtained full planning and listed building consent for conversion of the listed building into four apartments. The 1960’s extensions will be demolished and ten distinctively designed garden city style dwellings constructed in the grounds.
The project will regenerate and enhance this part of the conservation area, and has been implemented.
