Project Description:
Conversion of curtilage Listed buildings to residential dwellings
Case Study:
Herringswell Manor is a Grade II Listed Elizabethan Mansion with curtilage listed outbuildings. The site was formerly occupied by the Shi-Tennoji Japanese Boarding School until vacated in 2001.
Planning permission was granted for its residential conversion in 2003 and JB Planning Associates were subsequently brought in to handle three planning appeals increasing the number of residential dwellings from 29 to 52 on the site. JB Planning Associates presented expert evidence at the Inquiry on the setting of the Listed Building, arguing that the residential re-use of existing buildings was a fundamental principle of sustainable development, notwithstanding the sites remote rural location. The Inspector agreed, allowing all three appeals. The complete development has won several Design Awards.
