Client: City & Country Residential
Local Authority: Uttlesford District Council
Project Description:
Erection of 6 houses; conversion of part of existing building to 6 maisonettes; alterations to existing office units including erection of single storey rear extensions.
Case Study:
Newport Maltings is located in the centre of the village Conservation Area in a highly sustainable location next to the railway station. Following an appeal, which established the principle of residential development and overcame the loss of employment use, a mixed-use scheme comprising the restoration and conversion of the traditional maltings building and new build dwellings was submitted. Whilst officers were supportive, planning committee refused the application on parking grounds.
JB Planning Associates subsequently submitted a further appeal bringing to the Inspector’s attention a number of key planning benefits including restoring the traditional buildings in the Conservation Area; re-using previously developed land and the site’s sustainable location. The appeal was allowed subject to conditions.
